Comments: Except for a few independent publishers, and one self-publishing website (Welcome, Dru) all novels were published by well-known traditional houses. As for women versus men authors, some guessing is required due to use of initials, but I’ll go out on a limb and say that 16 women were authors or editors of the 30 Finalists, and only 13 men (even though I assumed the initials were men’s). In addition, five of the 16 women were the winners in their category, whereas only one man was. That’s good news for female mystery authors, of which I am now a member.
Hi Phyllis,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lists but my question is about last week's post. If she or he is available, who did your cover artwork for Dead in the Water?
Thanks,
Bob
Bob: That book is published by Gemma Halliday Publishers and their cover artist (whose name I don't know) did it. All GHP covers are "cartoon-like" which might be why they're successful. This is the first time - after 30 years and nineteen published books - I ever had one rank under 1000, get 15 5-star reviews in the first two days after release, and generate seven requests from readers to be put on my mailing list. Yes, I'll take credit for writing a book people like, but - as I said in my blog post, I had 25 rejections just since 2002. If this is magic, I'm all for it.
